These usually cause discomfort and concern, but you can find different methods to control them.

Generally, the greatest episodes of vomiting and nausea occur after the first course of chemotherapy . It is normal that these attacks are causing a reaction to the drugs used or smell which is enhanced after treatment.

To control these episodes, it’s best to relax, pamper yourself with food, try not to eat foods high in fat or too sweet, exercise and look for some alternative therapy and general relaxation method.

While there are some medications that help control nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy sessions, patients often have an aversion to them. However, you can find some options outside of conventional medicine to address this issue.

For example, some people recommend the application of methods from traditional Chinese medicine such as acupressure, acupuncture and other relaxation techniques using breathing, music and meditation. Moreover, although in many countries and regions use is prohibited, we recommend the use of medicinal cannabis as an effective method to control vomiting and nausea.

Best of discomfort in these cases is to relax, unwind and be patient. Remember that although are unpleasant side effects are the result of a treatment that will help them greatly improve their quality of life.

You can administer chemotherapy in several ways. The most frequent oral and intravenous, but it is also possible or intramuscularly administered through catheters.The oral form when the drug is consumed as a capsule or tablet in the mouth. Oral administration is convenient, as it only requires that the patient swallow a pill. The intravenous, or IV, is when, as a liquid, we introduce the drug directly into circulation by a small needle is inserted usually in the arm.

Chemotherapy given by intramuscular injection into the muscle tissue. Is very similar to receiving a joint injection. The chemotherapy injected into a muscle disperse more slowly in the body if administered by the intravenous route.

In chemotherapy catheters are also used. The catheter is a thin plastic tube inserted into one of the central veins and often remains in place over the course of treatment. The benefits of a catheter is that the patient always has a device to receive chemotherapy and eliminating the need to insert several needles each time you need to provide treatment. You can choose catheters for patients who have very small veins or veins with few easily accessible.

Chemotherapy is very effective in killing cancer cells, but also affects normal cells.The potency of the drugs used in chemotherapy has side effects that can cause discomfort and inconvenience. Typical side effects of chemotherapy include gastrointestinal problems, hair loss, low numbers of blood cells, skin rashes, fatigue and infertility. Some of these side effects are covered here, but it is advisable that you talk to your physician about potential secondary actions of the medications you may be receiving. Most side effects are treatable, and if problems arise, it is possible to administer drugs to treat them.

Digestive problems are linked to the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon and bladder. The power derives chemotherapy sometimes nausea, diarrhea, constipation and loss of appetite. The patient may also suffer from cold sores and a sore throat.Healthy cells die or are damaged along with cancer, a situation that creates these temporary problems. When the chemotherapy ends, non-cancerous cells resume their normal functions or are replaced by new healthy, and the symptoms subside.

Another very important side effect may be problems with the bone marrow. The marrow is the site where you create and mature erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets. Chemotherapy affects rapidly dividing cells such almost the same way that cancer cells and many blood cells are dying. Decreased production of any of these cells can motivate difficulties. Decreased production of healthy red blood cells that carry oxygen, can cause anemia. A drop in the number of leukocytes, the cells that fight disease, infections can motivate because without them, the body is unable to fight pathogens and disease. A smaller number of platelets impairs the ability of blood clotting, in turn, slows the healing of wounds. Systematically monitors your doctor during treatment the number of these cells, and take preventive measures if any difficulty arises.

Also, chemotherapy can encourage hair loss. Hair is lost because the chemotherapy affects the hair follicles that grow steadily. The drugs cause the follicles to stop playing, a fact that stops hair growth. Besides this, the already weakened follicle can not stand the hair comes out. Then the hair is removed completely or falls by the lack of support. After chemotherapy, the hair grows back. Usually, hair grows back just as thick if not thicker than before.

Chemotherapy can also have sexual side effects. You may register as low sperm numbers or damage to the ovaries. Again, the reason is that the chemotherapy is focused on cells that divide rapidly, and the testes and ovaries fall into this category.Drugs may produce temporary or permanent infertility in both men and women.

Chemotherapy, which involves using chemicals to kill cancer cells is a major therapeutic technologies used to fight cancer. Chemotherapy is one of the three most important methods used to treat cancer, works by interfering with the ability of the cancer cell to grow. They are also used radiation and surgery, which can be combined with chemotherapy.

The high efficacy of chemotherapy is a result of its ability to treat cancer spread (metastatic), the one that comes in more than one body site. Such capability makes it very important to chemotherapy in a patient’s struggle to overcome cancer since radiation therapy and surgery are only suitable for treating cancer in localized areas. When using these three treatments combined, their complementary route to attack the disease often offer the patient a better chance of beating cancer.

There are many different types of drugs that qualify as chemotherapeutic agents. The drug chosen depends on what type of cancer is treated. Drugs are classified into five major categories based on the way alter cell chemistry and what stage of life cycle of the affected cell.

To understand the chemotherapy, it is first necessary to understand what is the cell cycle. Chemotherapy is effective because the drugs used affect certain stage of the life cycle of cells. To replicate, each cell goes through a cycle of four stages. The first, called G1, occurs when the cell prepares to replicate their chromosomes. The second is called S, in her DNA synthesis occurs and this is doubled. The next stage is G2, when duplicating RNA and protein. The final stage is the M phase, the actual cell division. In the latter, DNA and RNA duplicates divide and move to separate ends of the cell. In fact, it is divided into two identical functional cells.

Depending on the chosen medication, chemotherapy affects malignant cells in one of three ways:
- Damaging the DNA of cancer cells so that they can no longer reproduce. This occurs by altering the structure of DNA in the cell nucleus, thereby preventing replication.
- During the S phase of cell cycle by inhibiting the synthesis of new DNA strands so that it is not possible any cell replication. This occurs when drugs block the formation of nucleotides necessary for the creation of new DNA.
- Stopping the mitotic process so that the cancer cell can not divide into two cells. The formation of mitotic spindles is essential to move the original DNA and replicated DNA to opposite sides of the cell and it can be divided into two cells.
The current chemotherapeutic work in one of these ways to achieve the ultimate goal of killing cancer cells in the body.

Antimetabolites are types of chemotherapy treatments similar to normal substances found within the cell. When the cells incorporate these substances into the cellular metabolism, lose the ability to divide.

Antimetabolites are cell cycle specific. They attack cells at very specific phases of the cycle. Antimetabolites are classified according to the substances with which they interfere.
* Folic acid antagonist: Methotrexate.
* Pyrimidine antagonists: 5-fluorouracil, floxuridine, cytarabine, capecitabine and gemcitabine.
* Purine Antagonists: 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine.
* Adenosine deaminase inhibitor: Cladribine, fludarabine, and pentostatin nelarabine.

Topoisomerase inhibitors

Topoisomerase inhibitors are types of chemotherapy drugs that interfere with the action of topoisomerase enzymes (topoisomerase I and II). During chemotherapy treatments, topoisomerase enzymes control the manipulation of the structure of DNA necessary for replication.

* Inhibitors of topoisomerase I, irinotecan, topotecan.
* Inhibitors of topoisomerase II: amsacrine, etoposide, etoposide phosphate, teniposide.

Miscellaneous antineoplastics

Several useful types of chemotherapy drugs are unique:
* Ribonucleotide reductase inhibitor: Hydroxyurea.
* Adrenocortical steroid inhibitor: mitotane.
* Enzymes and pegaspargase asparaginase.
* Antimicrotubule agent, estramustine.
* Retinoids bexarotene, isotretinoin, tretinoin (ATRA).

In addition to the above types of chemotherapy, many other types of chemical treatments, for example, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy.

Alkylating agents

Alkylating agents are most active during the resting phase cells. These drugs are cell cycle specific. There are several types of alkylating agents used in chemotherapy treatments:
* Mustard gas derivatives: Mechlorethamine, cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil, melphalan and ifosfamide.
* Ethyleneimine: thiotepa and hexamethylmelamine.
* Alkylsulfonates: Busulfan.
* Hydrazines and Triazines: altretamine, procarbazine, dacarbazine and temozolomide.
* Nitrosoureas: carmustine, lomustine, and streptozocin. The nitrosoureas are unique because, unlike most types of chemotherapy, they can pass across the blood brain barrier (blood-brain). May be useful for the treatment of brain tumors.
* Sales of metal: carboplatin, cisplatin and oxaliplatin.

Plant alkaloids

The plant alkaloids are chemotherapy treatments derived from certain types of plants.The vinca alkaloids are made from the periwinkle plant (Catharanthus rosea). The taxanes are made from the bark of Pacific yew (Taxus). The vinca alkaloids and taxanes are also known as antimicrotubule agents. Podophyllotoxins are derived from the May apple or American mandrake. ” Camptothecin analogues are derived from the “Tree of Happiness” Asian (Camptotheca acuminata). Podophyllotoxins and camptothecin analogs are also known as topoisomerase inhibitors, used in certain types of chemotherapy. The plant alkaloids are cell cycle specific. This means they attack the cells during various phases of division.
* Vinca alkaloids vincristine, vinblastine and vinorelbine.
* Taxanes: paclitaxel and docetaxel.
* Podophyllotoxins: etoposide and teniposide.
* Camptothecin analogs, irinotecan and topotecan.

Antitumor Antibiotics

Antitumor antibiotics are chemical treatments made from natural products produced by species of the soil fungus Streptomyces. These drugs act during multiple phases of cell cycle and are considered cell cycle specific. There are several types of antitumor antibiotics:
* Anthracyclines: doxorubicin, daunorubicin, epirubicin, mitoxantrone and idarubicin.
* Chromomycin: Dactinomycin and Plicamycin.
* Other: Mitomycin and bleomycin.

TREATMENTS OF LUNG CANCER

The prognosis and choice of treatment depend on the extent to which stage the cancer, tumor size or type of lung cancer.

The surgery involves removing the tumor and some tissue from the surrounding area and is often used in the early stages of the disease

Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill cancer cells.

Radiation therapy using high energy X-rays to kill cancer cells and shrink the tumor.

OTHER INFORMATION

The doctor needs to know the stage of the cancer to plan treatment.

The staging of non-small cell lung involves the following steps:

Occult stage. Cancer cells are found in sputum, but you can not find any tumor in the lung.

Stage 0. The cancer is located in one area, in some cell layers only, and no growth through the lining of the lung. Another term for this type of lung cancer is “carcinoma in situ.

Stage I. The cancer is found only in the lung and is surrounded by normal tissue.

Stage II The cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes.

Stage III. The cancer has spread to the chest wall or diaphragm near the lung, or the cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the area that separates the two lungs (mediastinum) lymph nodes or across the chest, or neck.

Stage IV. The cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Recurrent cancer has come back after receiving treatment.

In the staging of small cell lung discusses the stages that follow:
- Limited stage: Cancer is found only in one lung and nearby lymph nodes.
Extensive stage cancer has spread outside the lung where it began to other tissues of the chest or other body parts.
- Recurrent stage. The disease has recurred after being treated, whether in the lungs or other body part.

Its aim is to destroy, using a variety of drugs, the cells that make up the tumor in order to achieve the reduction or elimination of the disease.

The drugs used in this treatment are called antineoplastic or chemotherapeutic drugs.These drugs reach almost all tissues of the body and that’s where they exert their action both on malignant cells and healthy ones. Due to the action of drugs on the latter may appear a series of more or less severe symptoms, known side effects.

Before starting treatment is necessary to assess, by analyzing blood and urine, if levels of red blood cells and leukocytes are normal and how your kidneys, since the dose of drugs will depend on these results.

For the treatment of cervical cancer is usual to use a combination of several drugs by intravenous administration.
Chemotherapy is given in cycles, with alternating periods of treatment with rest periods.

Before starting a new cycle control is necessary to ensure that chemotherapy is not damaging the kidneys or altering the levels of red blood cells and white blood cells.

In the body healthy cells are usually multiply rapidly, they are also affected by chemotherapy. The destruction of these triggers the most common side effects.

However, in many cases, the patient feels better after initiating treatment, as they begin to decrease symptoms that was causing the tumor.

Side effects may be absent, but when they do the most common are nausea and vomiting, changes in the lining of the mouth, hair loss, changes in the bone marrow.

The ideal anticancer drug should only be able to destroy malignant cells without causing adverse effects to the body, but this option does not exist, because the nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy can be so strong that patients abandon the treatment reach , which severely limits their recovery.

However, chemotherapy treatment is essential to remove malignant tumors and thus achieve healing. To reverse and control the adverse effects of nausea and vomiting caused by the chemotherapy, science has developed substances called antiemetic can minimize or even eliminate these side effects.

During the 41st annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO, by its initials in English) held in Orlando, Florida, Professor Matti S. Aapro, Director of the Multidisciplinary Oncology Institute in Genolier, Switzerland, presented data from an epidemiological study entitled Comparison of aprepitant combination regimen with 4-day ondansetron + 4-day dexamethasone for prevention of acute and delayed nausea / vomiting after cisplatin chemotherapy. The study results showed that treatment with aprepitant (Emend) is superior to the scheme of several days with ondansetron and dexamethasone to prevent nausea and vomiting induced by highly emetogenic chemotherapy (nausea and frequent vomiting).

In that study, the drug regimen performed better than the treatment of several days only with others, both in the acute phase and in the late after chemotherapy with high dose cisplatin.

“This study demonstrates the clinical benefit of the scheme with aprepitant (Emend) in the full cycle of treatment in both acute and delayed phase in patients treated with cisplatin. Clinical studies like this reinforce the new parameters of antiemetic treatment guidelines as recommended by the Multinational Association for Supportive Care Cancer (MASCC), “said Professor Matti Aapro, also President of the MASCC.

This multinational, randomized, double-blind study, evaluated 484 patients undergoing chemotherapy and analyzed the complete response rates-defined as no vomiting and no rescue medication use, in the acute phase (from 0 to 1 days ), late (2 to 5 days) and globally (1 to 5 days) as the first line antiemetic therapy in patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy.

Before selecting the most appropriate antiemetic for each patient, it is important to know that all chemotherapy drugs act differently and may have several side effects. The most important thing a patient can do to reduce the occurrence of nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy is to talk with your medical oncologist about antiemetics that have been prescribed and they have given satisfaction.

Overall, pleural tumors can not be removed surgically. It must treat the original cancer (primary). Depending on the type of primary cancer, radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be appropriate.

Therapeutic thoracentesis may be performed if fluid accumulation is large and causing pressure, shortness of breath or other breathing problems (such as low oxygen levels). Removing the fluid may allow the lung to expand more and can ease breathing difficulties.

To prevent fluid from building up again, sometimes medication will be placed in the thoracic space through a tube or a surgeon can insert a scope through a small incision in the chest wall to remove fluid (thoracoscopy). Then a drug is sprayed or powder on the surface to prevent lung cancer cells produce more fluid in the future.

Expectations

The survival rate five years (number of people living more than five years after diagnosis) is less than 25% for people with pleural tumors that have spread.

Complications

* Side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy
* Continued spread of cancer

Situations requiring medical assistance

Call your doctor if you experience symptoms of this disorder.

Prevention

Early detection and treatment of primary cancers may prevent metastatic pleural tumors in some people.
