WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS!!!

Incorporating Friends of Warwick Open Space Conservation Area and Friends of Warwick Senior High School BushlandMeetings: 3rd Sunday of the month 9am, at the Information ShelterTennis Club car park, Lloyd Drive, Warwick.Warwick Bushland covers 60 ha and is bounded by Erindale, Beach, Warwick, and Wanneroo Roads in the suburb of Warwick. It is 15 mins from central Perth and lies in the far southeast corner of the City of Joondalup. It consists of the bushland areas of the Warwick Open Space Conservation Area and Warwick Senior High School. The Friends of Warwick Bushland are people interested in learning about, and caring for this special place. Membership is free and open to all ages. Currently the Friends have over 30 members. For administration purposes two groups operate under the banner of the Friends of Warwick Bushland. This is because the Warwick Conservation Area is managed by the City of Joondalup as part of Warwick Open Space, and the high school bushland is managed through the school and Education Department. The Friends of Warwick SHS Bushland also began several years before the Friends of Warwick Conservation Area. The government has identified the Warwick Conservation Area as of regional significance and made it a Bush Forever Site. The school bushland is being considered for addition to this Site. Warwick Bushland is an excellent example of the flora and fauna that were once found throughout the area and is used by a wide range of the community. The Friends, in conjunction with the City of Joondalup and the Warwick Senior High School, aim to maintain and improve the condition of the Tuart-Jarrah-Banksia Woodland present for the enjoyment of current and future generations.Coordinator Janina Pezzariniph.9447 9494 (evenings, weekends)Email:neen@ext.uwa.edu.au

Activities: Botanical studies- we are currently compiling a regional Herbarium of flora and fungi species; conservation rehabilitation works, eg. weed & rubbish removal; maintenance of good bush; seedcollection; nature walks; assisting researchstudy projects eg,Graceful Sun Mothstudy; planting degraded areas; restoring lost habitat for reptiles and invertebrates; Clean Up Australia Day; and end of year celebration picnics.

Visiting: For orchids and wildflowers, the best time of year to visit is mid-Winter to Spring. To see fauna eg, reptiles such as the Western Bearded Dragon, visit in Spring andSummer. Birds can be seen at all times of the year, especially Red Wattle birds and Twenty-eight parrots.

Projects of Interest: With the assistance of botanists, the Friends Group have been compiling a substantial Regional Herbarium for nine(9) years, which is nearing completion. In cooperation with FungiMap Australia and the Perth Urban Bushland FungiProject, we have also been conducting fungi surveys for the past five(5) years with a large number of new specimens recorded. One of our major efforts is to monitor the condition of good bush to maintain its quality so as to prevent any unwanted weed species catching hold in these areas. The High School bush has been declared a "Land For Wildlife" site because of the presence of the Speckled Stone Gecko, a delicate little gecko mainly found in the Darling Ranges.

AccessibilityThere are numerous entrances to the area- see map.
The Info shelter in the Lloyd Drive car park has a map.
